Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Chef to join our care home team. This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate catering professional who enjoys creating nutritious, high-quality meals and making a positive difference to residents' daily lives.
As a Care Home Chef, you will support the Head Chef in delivering an exceptional catering service, ensuring residents receive well-balanced, appetising meals that meet their individual dietary and nutritional requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Head Chef in providing a high-quality catering service and take responsibility for the kitchen in their absence.
- Prepare, cook, and present meals to a consistently high standard.
- Assist with menu planning, ensuring meals are varied, nutritious, and cater to residents' preferences and dietary requirements.
- Prepare special diets and modified meals as required.
- Ensure food preparation and service comply with all food safety, health and safety, and environmental health regulations.
- Maintain excellent standards of cleanliness and hygiene throughout the kitchen and food preparation areas.
- Assist in implementing and maintaining cleaning schedules and kitchen procedures.
- Monitor stock levels, rotate stock appropriately, and support food ordering processes.
- Ensure kitchen equipment is maintained, cleaned, and operated safely.
- Supervise, support, and guide kitchen assistants and junior team members where required.
- Promote safe working practices and contribute to a positive team environment.
- Report any hazards, equipment faults, accidents, or incidents promptly.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all company policies and procedures.
- Complete all mandatory training and professional development requirements.
Requirements
- Previous experience preparing and cooking meals for large groups within a care home, healthcare, hospitality, education, or similar catering environment.
- NVQ Level 2 in Catering, Professional Cookery, or equivalent qualification (or working towards).
- Food Hygiene Certificate (Level 2 or above preferred).
- Good understanding of food safety regulations and health and safety legislation.
- Experience catering for a range of dietary requirements and nutritional needs.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Previous experience in a Chef, Second Chef, Sous Chef, or similar role.
- Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
